D and I went to dinner the other night. It never fails that we get not-so-great service. Most of it is due to the fact that we get trainees. Rookies, if you will. When we're on vacation - bad service. Saturday night? Bad service. Yet, we always faithfully tip our 20%. D used to be a waiter during his actor days, so, he rarely bends his 20% tip rule.
Back to the other night. We show up to a restaurant that we frequent. A restaurant that D worked at for some time. We walk in and there is no one there to greet us. Eventually, a young woman resembling a raccoon walks up to us and stares. Stares. I have to finally say... "Table for two, please".
When D and I finally sat down, we start making up stuff we should've said.... "Uh, can we please sit outside?" (It was POURING rain!!). "Uh, yes, can we sniff your coffee?". "Yes, we'd like to lick the dessert tray".
And finally D says..."Can we eat your crayons?". Yeah. Mmm, crayons.
